Short description: In Russian (ask us if in doubt).Muravyev Andrei Nikolaevich (1806-1874), Orthodox spiritual writer and historian of the Church, pilgrim and traveller; playwright, poet, honorary member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, chamber of the Russian Imperial Court. He served in the military. After passing his exams at Moscow University in April 1828, he was appointed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August of the same year. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829, he met Alexey Khomyakov in Shumla. In 1829-1830, as a pilgrim, he visited Egypt (particularly Alexandria and Cairo), Jerusalem, Cyprus, Smyrna, Constantinople.
