The International Exhibition "Press" in Cologne in 1928 was held in the capital "Pavilion of States" – the USSR did not build a temporary pavilion at that time. It was decided to invite the artists Lissitzky and Rabinovich to decorate the exposition. Lissitzky succeeded in radically transforming the pseudo-classical facade of the building by placing three-dimensional letters USSR glowing at night in each of the four arches. The exhibits were dominated by constructions “specially composed by the artist”, original mechanical attractions: “Star”, “Working Correspondent”, “Red Army”, “Transmission”.
