Author of the Moscow flora (1866), one of the first original floristic summaries in the Russian language, containing the characteristics and clues for identifying 941 species that had a great impact on the development of plant systematics and geography in Russia; in plant morphology, he developed a teaching about metamorphosis. K.A. Timiryazev noted that the proposed book was the first Russian book to promote the spread of serious knowledge among a young generation aspiring to scientific activity.
