Here he studied documents with passion; he often worked in the ancient Pogodin repository. Belyaev managed to do a great deal for Russian archaeography and archival studies. Since 1852, as an adjunct professor, Belyaev took up the chair of the history of Russian legislation at Moscow University and remained there until his death.
