In 1873, as Honorary Justice of the Peace and Chairman of the Lgovsky World, living in his estate, in the 1870s he began writing on problems of jurisprudence. Annenkov's writings are devoted to problems of civil law, civil procedure, and local self-government. Contemporary scholars noted the fundamental reference value of his Commentary Experience on the Statute (1880; 1887, 2nd edition) as a desk book of jurist-practice. Equally highly appreciated was the reference value of his System of Russian Civil Law (3rd edition 1899-1910), even though the very presentation of the system of Russian civil law is a reworking of Roman law as presented by J.
