Two-time winner of Stalins Second Degree Prize (1949, stripped in 1955, 1950). Born into a family (according to family tradition, Old Believers) from the Soltsy estate of the Porkhov district of the Pskov province; baptized in the Trinity Cathedral of the Izmailov regiment.
