Description: Short description: In 1863, Henri de Rochefort-Lucet (1831-1913), a French politician and journalist, was a staff writer for Le Figaro; in his articles, he strongly criticized the activities of Napoleon IIIs government. In 1868, Rochefort published his own newspaper, La Lanterne, which was highly critical of the government of the Second Empire, and was banned a few months after its publication. Rochefort fled to Belgium, where he continued to publish La Lanterne, secretly transporting its circulation to France.
