The main character, the courageous Jean dAragon, nicknamed Hernani, is a Spanish aristocrat and robber; the enemy of King Don Carlos and Don Rui, the lover of Dogni Sol. The premiere took place on February 25, 1830 at the Comédie Française Theatre and caused considerable controversy.
