Description: In Russian. Short description: Zabelin, I.E. History of Russian Life from Ancient Times: [in 2 parts] / By Ivan Zabelin. - Moscow: I.K. Grachev Printing House, 1876. Ivan Egorovich Zabelin (1820-1908), a renowned Russian historian and archaeologist, Moscow expert, collector of ancient manuscripts, museum worker, and member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. The two volumes of History of Russian Life from Ancient Times, published in 1876 and 1879, represent an extensive work on the history of Russian culture. Zabelin aimed to explore all the unique foundations of Russian life and its borrowings from other peoples - the Finns, Normans, Greeks, Tatars, and Germans. By examining the ideological foundations of Russian culture, he highlights the significant role of economic relations in the history of politics and culture. In this work, in the name of Slavic originality, the author departs from the Norman theory. Diminishing the importance of the progenitor, he states that the father-householder, leaving his home and joining the ranks of other householders, became an ordinary brother; the brotherly kin represented a community where brotherly equality was the first and natural law of life. The composition concludes with a chapter titled The Establishment of Christianity. Please contact us for details on condition of available copies of the book. SKUMS000175
