The rare first complete Russian translation of the Communist Manifesto, with an original preface by the authors, written a year before the death of Marx. Prepared by Georgi Plekhanov. The Communist Manifesto (German: Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei) is an 1848 pamphlet by German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Commissioned by the Communist League and originally published in London just as the Revolutions of 1848 began to erupt, the Manifesto was later recognized as one of the world s most influential political documents. Marx s and Engels groundbreaking work of communist propaganda is undoubtedly the most widespread, the most international production of all Socialist literature, the common platform acknowledged by millions of working men from Siberia to California (preface to the 1888 edition). To quote the late Harold Laski – the Manifesto of the Communist Party outlined the main positions of Marxism as a theory of history, a criticism of Socialist doctrine and a programme of revolutionary action.
